Today I would like you to think about vocabulary. listen out for the words below in this chapter. Then discuss, or think about, how familiar you are with each of them. 

  • If there are any you KNOW the meaning of, try to use that word in a conversation this week.
  • If you are familiar with (you have heard it, but are not sure of its meaning) any, read the sentence and guess the meaning. Then check by discussing it with an adult or looking it up. Try to use one of these word in your writing this week. 
  • If there are any you are unfamiliar with (you have never heard before), read the sentence and guess the meaning. Then check by discussing it with an adult or looking it up.

 

telegram - "I prayed it wasn't obvious I'd never sent a telegram before."

optimism - "My optimism didn't last mind you."

simper - "Don't simper, Lil," she said, playfully. "It's not your style."

satchel - "Opening my satchel, I passed the box to Tulip."

snidey - "How's your new friend, Lilian?" Millicent called out in her snidey, wheedling way.
