WALT collect data.

Start today by doing a quick warm up:  Make a 2 digit number now add one more and one less.  How about 10 more?  10 less?  Do this a few times just to warm up (you can try with a 3-digit number).

This week we are going to be looking at data handling?  What is that I hear you ask?  What is data?  (Yes it is information) Handling is how the information is presented and used to answer questions.  Today we are going to be collecting some data, but first we need to decide what we are going to collect our data about.  I have always wanted to know which vowel is the most used?  How can we find this out?  Also how are we going to collate the information?  I am hoping you are all thinking we could use a tally chart.

Remember the frequency is the tally marks.  We use tally marks because it is easier to count in 5’s.  Now we know how we are going to record our findings, what are we going to use?  I think you should use the passage from our English work.  Read through the passage and tally how many times each one of the vowels have been used.  When you have done that you need to total the frequency.  Which vowel is used the most?  Which is used the least often?
