WALT find the area of irregular shapes (counting squares)

## What is area?

Area means how much space a flat shape takes up. This is the space inside a shape.

Area is measured in square units:

• Square centimetres (cm²) are good for measuring a small area - like a picture or a model.

• Square metres (m²) are good for measuring bigger areas - like a wall or a playground.

Some times we can count solve the area of an irregular shape by counting the amount of squares in a shape.

These are SAT's questions.

What is the area of these irregular shapes?
