WALA: The Gods & Goddesses of Ancient Egypt
Today we are going to learn about the belief systems of the Ancient Egyptians The Gods played important roles in the daily lives of the ancient Egyptians. There were two levels of gods: local gods and national gods. People looked to the gods for help with everything from making it rain to a safe journey in the afterlife. There were daily rituals for caring for the gods and festivals celebrating specific gods. At the time the Egyptians didn’t have the scientific knowledge that we have now.
Watch the teacher lead clip which gives you an overview of some of the most important Gods & Goddesses and what their role was in Ancient Egyptian society.
Next, read the document in Resources which tells you how gods played a role in everyday life in Ancient Egypt. Make sure you answer the five questions at the end of the document to check your understanding of the text.
Choose three Ancient Egyptian Gods or Goddesses, draw them accurately and write underneath what they represented and what they did. You can use the Gods and Goddesses PowerPoint (available also as a PDF) in Resources to help you.
Can you choose two different God and Goddesses and compare and contrast them. What is the same and what is different? You may want to draw them out first so you have studied them in detail. You can use the Gods and Goddesses PowerPoint (available as a PDF) to help.
Complete challenge 1 or 2 first . Then, using the appearances and the characteristics and roles of the Gods and Goddesses you have learnt about today, can you create your own Egyptian God? Draw a detailed picture of them and write what they do and what their purpose is. Be creative and imaginative.
