Physical Education - Progression of Learning Skills

At Maylandsea, we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve well. We offer a dynamic, varied and stimulating program of activities to ensure that all children progress physically through an inspirational, unique and fully inclusive PE curriculum. Through the use of the Get Set 4 PE, we ensure that we are supporting not only their physical development, but their social and emotional development too.

We encourage children to develop their understanding of the way in which they can use their body, equipment and apparatus safely yet imaginatively, to achieve their personal goals. All children have the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, maintain a healthy lifestyle and increase their self-esteem.

The aim of physical education is to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles and our PE curriculum, along with PSHE and science, teaches children about the importance of healthy living and learning about the need for good nutrition. We aim for children to develop the necessary knowledge and skills which will have a positive impact on their future by becoming physically active citizens. This benefits long-term health and well-being.

We achieve this by –

  • Participating in 2 hours of PE a week
  • Participating in the daily mile
  • Actively promoting out-of-school sports clubs and events such as Park Run and Race for Life
  • Offering gymnastics and dance to children from reception to Year 6
  • Encouraging participation in after-school clubs
  • Participating in sporting competitions and in a variety of sports to encourage participation and promote inclusion
