Mathematics - progression of learning skills
At Maylandsea Primary school the intention of the mathematics curriculum is for the children to become confident and fluent mathematicians who can explain their reasoning and have a deep understanding of the mathematics they have learnt. We work in line with the 2014 National Curriculum for mathematics which aims to ensure that all children:
At Maylandsea we provide a range of contexts to facilitate the acquisition of the skills and processes necessary for the children to experience deep learning. This is learning that can be recalled and utilised efficiently as well as being non-contextual, so they can apply it to a wide-range of areas. Our intention is that children see their potential as mathematicians as limitless, they adopt a growth mindset and are able to choose and move through mathematical challenges within lessons and to eventually achieve mastery in all areas of mathematical learning.
We remain committed for children to relate their learning in the classroom to the wider world and that their learning resonates with them through the rest of their schooling and adult lives. We continue to promote a love and enjoyment of mathematics Our intention is that by the end of Key Stage Two, children will leave our school well-prepared and well-quipped for the next stage of their mathematical education.
